Language Exchange Programme
2 Month Summer Programme: £695
5 Month Programme: £795
The Language Exchange Programme splits your time equally between studying Chinese and teaching English. Learning Mandarin in China means that anything learnt during lesson time can be applied immediately in real life situations – such as ordering in restaurants, shopping and making friends.
The English teaching element of the programme is hard work but also very enjoyable. Chinese students are well behaved and extremely enthusiastic to learn English and about western culture – and about you! The lessons should be fun for both you and the students.
In comparison with the Teach English programme the Language Exchange is far more focused on learning mandarin in a fully immersive environment.
What will I get from the programme?
- A good grounding in the basics of Mandarin including speaking, listening, reading and writing
- Experience of teaching English to enthusiastic and motivated students - highly rewarding and great for developing your skills
- Accommodation, a spacious bedroom and shared living/dining room with another Western participant
- Basic salary of 500RMB (1000 RMB for graduates)
- Assistance with visa applications
- Regular social activities including Chinese calligraphy classes, Chinese cookery, picnics, hikes and trips to temples.
- Support from our representatives in China and London.
When do the programmes start and how long do they last?
- Start dates are from July 2008, September 2008, February 2009 and June 2009.
- The September and February programmes last for 5 months and the Summer Programmes last for 2 months.
What about flights and spending money?
- Flights are not included. A return from Heathrow to London is around £450 although prices are subject to fluctuation and may be cheaper if you are willing to stop over.
- You will need some spending money to supplement your salary but the cost of living in China is much cheaper than the UK and any spending money would not be a large amount of money. A member of the China Recruitment team will be happy to advise you on this.
Dates can be slightly flexible in order to accommodate the participant where possible.
